Why Future Commons?

I believe that money is never just about money.

Behind every grant, donation, partnership, strategy or campaign are deeper questions about power, relationships, accountability and the kind of future we are trying to build.

For more than a decade, I have worked across philanthropy, fundraising, partnerships and organisational change in the UK, United States and Southeast Asia. Along the way, I have become convinced that many of the challenges organisations face are not simply strategic.

They are questions of culture.

Questions of stewardship.

Questions of belonging.

Questions of what it means to live our values in practice.

Too often, organisations are asked to choose between impact and integrity, growth and accountability, pragmatism and purpose. I believe these are false choices.

I believe organisations do their best work when power, resources and relationships are aligned.

My work has been shaped by environmental advocacy, violence prevention, community development and international philanthropy. It has also been shaped by conversations with colleagues, communities and movements asking difficult questions about who holds power, who benefits from change and what responsibilities come with influence.

I am particularly interested in how we build cultures of generosity, develop ethical approaches to fundraising and partnerships, and create institutions that people want to belong to and futures they want to invest in.

I do not believe meaningful change begins with having all the answers.

It begins with creating the space to ask better questions — and having the courage and support to listen to difficult answers.

Through Future Commons, I work with charities, foundations, schools and purpose-led organisations through workshops, facilitation and strategic advisory support. Together, we explore questions of power, philanthropy, stewardship and change, and build practical pathways towards more accountable, equitable and sustainable futures.

Because the future is not something we inherit.

It is something we create together.

And every strategy, partnership, campaign and funding decision is an opportunity to shape that future.

The question is not simply how we raise resources.

The question is what we do with them once we have them.

Because the future we create depends on what — and who — we choose to invest in.
